Gambling, Drug Charges Follow Raid On Russell Co. Billiards Hall

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A raid Friday on a billiards hall resulted in the arrest of five people in what police said is an ongoing investigation into complaints about gambling and drug activities.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Department says its deputies along with Russell Springs police executed a warrant at Sharkie’s Billiards, 350 Dowell Road in Russell Springs.

Police say nine gambling machines were seized and the business’s owner was arrested along with four others.

Jared Allen Smith, 30, of Russell Springs, is charged with six counts of first-degree promoting gambling and first-degree possession of gambling devices.

Matthew Adam Burton, 26, of Dunnville is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine; and possession of marijuana.

Zack Louis Samuell, 20, of Russell Springs is charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance, 30 hydrocodone pills.

And a 17-year-old juvenile male of Columbia was cited to appear in Russell District Court-Juvenile Division for possession of marijuana.

Smith, Burton and Samuell were being held in the Russell County Detention Center.
