Bus Crash In South Carolina Injures 17 Returning From High School Choir Trip

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) -According to the Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy a charter bus carrying a high school chorus team crashed on Interstate-95 early this morning at 1:10 a.m near mile marker 68. The students and chaperones are all from Wilson, North Carolina.

The bus was traveling northbound when it ran off the road into the median and broke through the cable. Proceeding through the barrier and across the southbound lanes which drove into an embankment in the woods.

The bus sideswiped major trees but the outcome could have been a lot different, as stated by Chief McRoy. The side of the bus that took most of the damage was unable to open for them. 

Eleven transported for medical attention at the Colleton Medical Center while two are still there, one being the driver.  They students and chaperones waited in the cafeteria area to regroup with everyone after being evaluated by the medical center staff. Some of the parents from Wilson drove to be with the students. 

The bus company brought a larger bus to pick up the kids.
