HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18 ) — A woman is in custody after a fire Saturday night in Harlan County killed her 3-year-old nephew.
Police say Amanda Brock left the toddler and her 11-year-old son alone and unsupervised as she traveled to Letcher County.
Authorities say the fire broke out just before 9 p.m. at a home in the Coldiron community.
Police say the 11-year-old escaped the home and went to a neighbor’s home for help. But the home was soon fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters later found the 3-year-old dead inside the home.
Police say Brock is charged with second-degree manslaughter and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
