LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – She is still fighting and hanging in there. LEX 18’s Nancy Cox posted an update on social media on her condition after her serious back surgery that has her sidelined.

“In the morning when I rise…”
Today, as I have every day since April 11th, I woke up in pain. Feeling helpless. Frustrated. Dependent. My independence is one of my best AND worst traits. I know I’m not alone. I know so many of you are in pain right now. And maybe you feel dependent but are not sure anyone will truly be there for you. It’s frightening.
Pope Francis recently told Father Jim to pass along these words, “Do not fear. “
On the surface, that might appear easy advice for someone going into major surgery. But I never feared the surgery. The pain, helplessness. That’s what scares me still. The Pontiff’s words I see as a stern reminder. I am not alone. I’ll never be helpless. And there’s nothing more empowering than being dependent on those who love me. I’m learning.
At 50 years old with the spine of a70 year old, ?? I’m learning. I am so richly and wonderfully blessed. Lord, help me count this time as gain. Refinement through pain. Compassion for others. Let us go forth and embrace the day He has made.
