GARRARD COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Last week in Garrard County, a brave man sprung into action and protected his family against an intruder that got into their home while they were all sleeping.

"I’m just a man trying to protect his family," said David Back.

He said it was around 2 a.m. when the man broke into the Back’s home while he, his wife, and their two young children slept.

"I went for my knife, my hunting knife. He kept asking questions and I had to keep asking him to leave the house," said Back.

According to the police and Back, the suspect had removed a gravemarker and was holding it while standing in Back’s bedroom. The grave marker was metal and had the name Ann Castle on it in cursive.

Back said that the intruder kept asking who she was.

Back takes care of a nearby grave site. He eventually got the man, identified as David Hall, outside and into police custody. Hall was charged but has since been released.

"I’ve lost sleep over it, but I think it’d do it the same way again," said Back. "I just hope he finds guidance and gets his life right."

Hall is due back in court on June 28th when he will answer to first-degree wanton endangerment.
