HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – The aunt of a 3-year-old boy facing manslaughter and wanton endangerment charges after her nephew was found dead in a house fire pleaded not guilty in court today.
Police say 37-year-old Amanda Brock left her 11-year-old son and her 3-year-old nephew home alone in Coldiron on Friday night. The house caught fire while Brock was watching go-kart races in Letcher County.
Her son was able to escape and get help from a neighbor — but by the time they got back, the home was engulfed in flames. Firefighters found the 3-year-old dead inside the home.
Brock is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. She’s scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
