RICHMOND, Ky (LEX 18) A Richmond man is in jail accused of slapping and choking his girlfriend’s 20-month-old daughter.

24-year-old Sean Moffett is 6’1” and 250 pounds and he is accused of assaulting a 20-month-old little girl more than once.

"The mother has indicated it happened in the past before she’s witnessed it," said Assistant Chief Rodney Richardson.

Moffett lived on Villa Drive with the child’s mother. For reasons unknown, police said she never reported the alleged abuse. When the child’s father, who lives elsewhere, saw the child with injuries, he took her to Baptist Health Regional Hospital and that is when people got involved. Officers said they found bruising on the child’s right side of her face, abrasions to her neck, and marks on her chest.

The mother told police that Moffett on ‘several occasions assaulted her and the 20-month-old baby’

"The mother indicated she saw the boyfriend choke the little girl in the past, slap the little girl for crying or just minor things that any normal child under two would do," said Richardson.

According to the police report, the mother said that Moffett slapped the child when she wasn’t listening and "manually strangulated the child for an estimated 60 seconds" when the girl woke up and wouldn’t stop screaming. The mother told police that Moffett assaulted the child 4-5 times since February and was drunk on every occasion.

The child is now in protective care.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to this little one. This is a senseless crime," said Richardson.
