PIKEVILLE, Ky. (EKB) – A father in Pike County is facing a felony assault charge for allegedly shooting his son.

EKB News reports that Sidney Cline II was visiting his son and grandson at their residence and said something to the grandson that upset the boy’s father. The son then allegedly began choking and punching his father, who then produced a handgun.

The man told police he then accidentally shot his son in the knee. Court documents say that Cline then handed the gun to his wounded son and drove himself to Kentucky State Police Post 9 to turn himself in.

Sidney Cline II was charged with second-degree assault. Court documents said he told police he did not intend to shoot his son and that he pulled the gun out of fear for his life.

Cline was released from the Pike County Detention Center on Sunday after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
