LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Over 100 people from across Lexington will gather at the Lyric Theatre Thursday to focus on how they can reach out and help our City’s young people.

The goal of the Youth Engagement Summit, sponsored by the City’s “ONE Lexington” project and Fayette County Public Schools Community Partners Leadership Team, is to encourage adults to mentor young people.

“Our city is filled with positive opportunities for young people, said Laura Hatfield, Director of ONE Lexington. “What we are lacking are enough positive adults to meet the need to mentor and support our youth. This summit is about bringing people together to learn from our youth service organizations, and identify how individuals can get engaged in meaningful ways.”

ONE Lexington is uniting the community to enhance safety and quality of life in neighborhoods experiencing violent crime. ONE Lexington works with neighborhoods, schools, community groups, the faith community, Urban County Councilmembers, courts, social service agencies, law enforcement, and more.

The summit will showcase 14 youth mentoring programs, including programs that take place in and out of school, and Opportunity Youth panels, involving young people who have engaged in high risk behavior. Panel discussions begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Lyric, 300 E. Third St. The day ends at 12:30 p.m., after a networking lunch.

The program is free and open to the public.
