FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Capitol Street Bridge in Frankfort, which connects downtown to the state capitol building, is back open after a fire Wednesday night.

The fire was reported about 8 p.m. under the bridge.

It’s believed there was a homeless camp there at the time, but authorities do not know who started the fire.

An engineer with KYTC’s bridge preservation staff inspected the structure and noted some charring and peeling of paint, but determined that the structural integrity of the bridge was not compromised.

The bridge was reopened to traffic shortly after 10 p.m. Law enforcement is investigating the cause of the fire.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire, and whether or not it’s suspicious.
