LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP/WAVE 3)- The self-proclaimed "escort queen" at the center of the University of Louisville’s basketball team sex scandal was taken into custody on an unrelated charge after showing up late for her court hearing.

The Courier Journal reports Katina Powell’s absence Thursday was met with skepticism by Judge Sandra L. McLaughlin, despite word from a family member that Powell was hospitalized for a panic attack.

McLaughlin said Powell had "a history of purposely avoiding court" and that she would wait "all night long" to hold the hearing, if necessary.

Powell then came for a 1 p.m. hearing where she was told she violated her lease with the Metro Housing Authority and must move out in seven days.

When Powell eventually arrived an officer took her into custody. An arrest citation indicates that Powell allegedly cashed stolen checks for a total loss of $2900.
