LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — It has been six months since four people broke into a car on Liberty Road, stole a purse and then went shopping. Detectives are still looking for three of the thieves involved.

Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department said that the four got into an unlocked car and then went on a shopping spree. He said they purchased things that don’t cost a lot of money and then asked for cash-back values "to the tune of several thousand dollars."

"So these people made out like bandits, so to speak," said Thomas. "The day after the theft, they went to the Kroger on Richmond Road and forged some checks, so now you’ve got forgery."

Of the four suspects, three have not been identified. Thomas said that they can strike anywhere and to not let your guard down.
