ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – In a passionate race that drew national attention, Elwood Caudill Jr. has won the right to run against embattled Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis.

Caudill Jr. ran against Davis in the Democratic primary in 2014 and lost by 23 votes. He has worked in the County Property Valuation Office for the last 20 years.

He defeated one of the most popular names in the race, David Ermold. In 2015, Ermold was denied a marriage license by Davis. His story went viral and celebrities, like Amy Schumer and Susan Sarandon donated to his cause.

The Associated Press confirms that Ermold lost, despite his star power.

Caudill Jr. also defeated Jamey Jessee and Nashia Fife.

“Thank you to the voters of Rowan County, my family, friends, and supporters. I appreciate your support and confidence. I would like to thank the candidates for a well run race. I assure you, I will serve each and every citizen with dignity and respect. It is my intention to focus on the future, and I look forward to continuing the run for Rowan County Clerk," Caudill Jr. told LEX 18.
