LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A Jefferson County grand jury did not indict a Louisville police officer who shot a suspect during a search of an abandoned home in March of 2017.

Our sister station WAVE 3 News reports that the grand jury’s decision came down at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Bruce Warrick was shot last year as LMPD officers were searching a home off Magazine Street. Officer Sarah Stumler encountered Warrick hiding behind a mattress shortly before she shot him.

Video shows that Stumler did not give Warrick time to respond to her command to show his hands. She testified that the shooting was an accident and that she was trying to illuminate the flashlight.

Warrick this year filed a lawsuit against the City of Louisville, LMPD and Stumler. According to the lawsuit, Warrick was trying to comply with Stumler’s demands when he was shot.

Warrick was severely injured in the shooting and was not armed.
