FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– Kentucky’s fallen emergency medical services workers were honored with a candlelight vigil Wednesday night.

Friends, families, and current EMS workers gathered in Frankfort at the Kentucky Fallen Firefighter Memorial site to honor the lives of the 29 Kentucky EMS workers who have died in the line of duty.

Currently the state has memorial sites for fallen officers and firefighters, but no permanent site for fallen EMS workers.

But the foundation is trying to change that.

"It was kind of sad when I first learned and found out they didn’t have anything for EMS, so I appreciate what they have done and try to get this memorial built," said Morgan Mackey, the daughter of a fallen EMS worker.

The EMS Foundation hopes to create a permanent memorial at Juniper Hills Park next to the memorial designated for fallen firefighters.
