LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A man is behind bars Thursday morning after he is accused of pointing a gun at law enforcement.

It happened around 11 p.m. Monday on Rough Creek Road, approximately five miles east of London.

Officers went to the residence to notify a male subject there that his wife had apparently wrecked her vehicle.

35-year-old Coty Jones came to the front door, picked up a sawed off shotgun and pumped a shotgun round inside it pointing the weapon at the responding officer. Jones was ordered several times to drop the weapon, however he closed the front door and after repeated commands to come out of the residence, he came out with hands up and was placed under arrest.

Officials say that while placing Jones into the police cruiser, he attempted to fight with officers creating a disturbance in the area.

When officers entered the residence they found a 7-year-old female child inside near where the shotgun had been placed under a chair and accessible to the child there.

Jones was charged with wanton endangerment – first degree; two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; menacing; disorderly conduct – second-degree; resisting arrest; and defacing a firearm.
