PENDLETON, Ky. (LEX 18) — State Police are investigating after a pipe bomb was found at truck stop in northern Kentucky.

Authorities say an employee at the Pilot Truck Stop at 205 Pendleton Road in Pendleton called Kentucky State Police on Sunday to report a suspicious device found in an outside trash can.

Troopers and Lake Jericho Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. Police evacuate the truck stop and secured the area.

According to a news release, a KSP Hazardous Device Unit was dispatched and "rendered the device safe."

Authorities say they have collected evidence from the scene and are reviewing surveillance footage.

State police said they are investigating the case as "use of weapon of mass destruction," a class C felony.

No suspects have been identified, they said.
