MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) It was a somber day in Montgomery County as people gathered to remember a deputy jailer who was killed.

David Scott, 47, was shot and killed Saturday, May 26, 2018. Authorities say that Scott’s neighbor, 51-year-old Frances Zaayer, entered his home and shot Scott and his wife.

David Scott was pronounced dead at the hospital. His wife was taken to UK Hospital with injuries.

Zaayer has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, murder, and burglary. A not guilty plea was entered for her in court.

On Monday, many of Scott’s coworkers and friends were at the Taul Funeral Home for the services. Deputies from several other counties also attended to show their support.

Staff members from Clark, Bourbon, Woodford, and a number of other counties filled in at the Montgomery County Jail so employees could attend Scott’s funeral.

Jailer Eric Jones told LEX 18 that the Montgomery County Jail employees consider each other family, so this loss has been especially tough on them.
