BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (Bloodhorse.com)– The state veterinarian office has reported the season’s first case of Equine Potomac Horse Fever.

The report shows a thoroughbred filly in Bourbon County tested positive for the illness on June 1.

It’s reported that after beginning treatment, the horse has already shown signs of improvement.

Officials say the illness is usually found later in the year, but it is due to the unusual climate conditions this spring, that it is showing up earlier.
