LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18)– Tuesday, 61 World War II veterans will board a Bluegrass Honor Flight to Washington DC.

It’s their first overnight trip, exclusively for Kentucky’s WWII veterans.

The group will visit the WWII Memorial to honor, remember, and pay respects to their fallen comrades.

Monday night, several were treated to dinner at Mission BBG in Louisville ahead of their big trip.

"Excited about being here with all these good soldiers and good people," said Chester Woodrow Garrison, a veteran from Pairs, Ky.

The Honor Flight is the biggest involving WWII veterans in the US this year.

The group will return to a special homecoming parade Wednesday.
