SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A stretch of I-64 westbound in Scott County is back open following a semi fire.

It happened just after midnight Tuesday near the 68 mile marker, at the Woodford County line.

Officials say the trailer, which was hauling coal, caught fire when a suspension broke in the tires, causing it to go down and spark the fire.

The driver was able to pull over, get out, and unhitch the trailer.

When firefighters arrived, it was engulfed in flames.

The interstate was shut down for a couple hours while crews unloaded the coal to make sure no other fires would ignite.
