WASHINGTON (NBC News)– In a late night tweet, President Trump took another shot at the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!

The president says the White House event with the Super Bowl champions was canceled because only a few players decided to come.
President Trump cited the national anthem controversy as the reason for the cancellation.
The president says the White House will still hold a ceremony that will quote "celebrate America."
Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey said he’ll skip the quote "political stunt at the White House."
And Senator Casey invited the Eagles to the US capitol for a tour.
We will proudly be playing the National Anthem and other wonderful music celebrating our Country today at 3 P.M., The White House, with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus. Honoring America! NFL, no escaping to Locker Rooms!
