LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Covington man is facing multiple charges after police say he led them on a high-speed chase and injured a deputy.

Authorities say 45-year-old Jason Lay was driving a sport-utility vehicle that police clocked going 80 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy ran the plates and discovered the SUV apparently had been stolen in Covington. Authorities say Lay fled when police attempted to pull him over.

At one point, authorities say, Lay apparently aimed the SUV to hit officers.

The sheriff’s office says one deputy received minor injuries.

Lay is charged with receiving stolen property, reckless driving, 75 counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer and speeding.

Lay was being held in the Laurel County Jail.
