Man Admits Role In EKU Student’s Murder

LETCHER COUNTY, KY (LEX18) The second person charged in the murder of an EKU engineering student on New Year’s morning in 2014 has admitted his role in the crime.
The fatal stabbing happened on Hayes Street in Letcher County, after a group of men left the Streetside Grill and Bar. 
25-year-old Michael Hogg, of Whitesburg, was killed after a fight. Two other men were hurt. 
In December, James Huffman of Pikeville was convicted of criminal complicity to commit murder and he’s serving life in prison. 
According to E-K-B News… Patrick Smith’s plea deal, reached Tuesday morning, calls for a sentence of 20 years for eight charges, including criminal facilitation and attempt to commit murder. 
Formal sentencing is scheduled for August 20th.
