LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) A Lexington charity wants to help the victims of Guatemala’s devastating volcano eruption.

Brooke USA is headquartered at the Kentucky Horsepark. It is the sister organization of the world’s largest international equine welfare charity. Guatemala is home to 228,000 horses, donkeys, and mules, the highest number of equines in any Central American country. Guatemala is also home to 16.3 million people with more than 9% of the population living below the international poverty line. Many families there depend on their horses, donkeys, and mules to help support themselves.

The charity organization said that the loss of a family’s horse, donkey, or mule, makes it very difficult for them to continue to support themselves.

Brooke ESA wants to raise $10,000 to help the victims of the Fuego Volcano through Brooke USA’s partner in Guatemala, ESAP (Healthy Equines for the People).

You can donate to Brooke USA’s Equine Emergency Disaster Relief Funs here, or call the office at (859) 296-0037 or email cindy.rullman@brookeusa.org.
