WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Springfield man has been charged with assault after police accused him of shooting his stepfather in the back.

Authorities say 24-year-old Michael Yocum got into an argument with his stepfather, 47-year-old Michael Church, about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at a home on McMurtry Lane in Washington County.

Kentucky State Police said Yocum shot Church in the back. Church was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Police said Church was "stable" but didn’t specify his condition otherwise.

Yocum is charged with first-degree assault and is being held in Marion County Detention Center.
