ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) – The Orlando Police Department says one of its officers was shot while responding to a domestic violence call.

According to our sister station WESH, officers responded to the call around 11:45 Sunday night at an apartment complex. A woman met officers nearby and told them she had been battered.

The responding officers went to the apartment, where officials say there was an exchange of gunfire. One of the officers at the scene was hit during the shootout.

Though seriously injured, the officer is expected to be okay. The suspect is still barricaded in an apartment with four child hostages. The children are ages 1, 7, 10 and 12.
