FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell is set to make history Tuesday as the longest-serving republican leader in senate history.

The senate majority leader surpasses former Kansas Senator Bob Dole who was in office from from 1985 to 1996.

McConnell, who took office in 1985, is also Kentucky’s longest-serving senator.

And the 76-year-old doesn’t plan to step down soon, already planning his 2020 run.
