LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Ky (WPSD) The man accused of pulling the trigger Saturday night and killing a 15-year-old girl in Livingston County is now charged with murder.

It’s been just three days since Chaney Hurt’s daughter succumbed to her injuries.

"It’s an unnatural kind of suffering that comes with losing a child," said Chaney.

Chaney said that his 15-year-old daughter, Peyton, died Sunday from a head injury after being taken off life support. Investigators said that the teen was shot at a party in Ledbetter Saturday night.

Tyler Jones, 19, is charged with her murder.

"They explained to us what had happened and that it was terminal. We just started calling family," said Chaney.

It is hard to say a parent could find peace in a nightmarish situation like this, but the Hurts are trying.

"My wife and I decided we probably learned more from her than she did from us," said Hurt.

The 15-year-old was an organ donor and her organs have gone on to save the lives of seven others. It is a bittersweet sentiment for them to hold on to, knowing they no longer have their little girl, but that she lives on in others.

"We’re going to miss her a lot. This has affected a lot of people, and we’re just grateful through the organ donor process that a lot of people are going to get help," said Chaney.

Tyler Jones is due in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
