LOUISVILLE, Ky (WAVE 3) A bizarre string of thefts in Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood have police on alert. Someone is stealing outdoor furniture, yard decorations, bird feeders, and even lawn gnomes.
Police are telling residents to lock up their planters and even their lawn decorations.
Police have received thirty theft reports from homes in the area. One woman, who said her name was Missy, told WAVE 3 that thieves took something very close to her heart, a bird feeder that she bought with her mother before she died.
The theft of the 600-pound bird feeder was reported to police on Saturday.
Since moving that item would take multiple people, Major Aubrey Gregory with the Louisville Metro Police Department suspects that it is a group of thieves working together.
"It’s been moving around and it hasn’t stayed in one spot. But we have the constant repetitive pattern four or five a night from yards of backyards," said Major Gregory.
The thefts started last Thursday night and have not stopped.
"And usually when something like this happens it doesn’t stop until you catch them," said Gregory.
Police have not received any surveillance video of the suspects, but victims in the neighborhood don’t like the thought of strangers in their yards.
"It’s just making everyone feel unsafe and it’s not fair, and they are going to be caught," she said.
