OWSLEY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Owsley County maintenance workers are scrambling this week after two people broke into their garage and stole a truck, tools, and other equipment.

The judge executive, Cale Turner, is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

"We feel very violated," said Turner.

Turner said that early Monday morning, two people broke in, stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment, including a black 2006 Dually pickup truck.

"Started loading it up and put like three chainsaws, four weed eaters, a concrete saw, a welder, leaf blowers, different types of tools," said Turner.

Turner said that the thieves also took two dart guns that the county uses to sedate and capture stray dogs, along with the medicine that goes in those guns.

"With regulations pertaining to those type guns, I’m not for sure that they’ve not got into a federal crime there," said Turner.

The garage does have a security system, but whoever broke in, also stole the monitor that goes to that system. Turner said that they gave the rest of the system to KSP to see if they can pull up the video to get a look at the thieves. Turner is asking for everyone to keep an eye out for the black truck and keep an ear out for any information about the burglary.

"To me, they committed a horrible crime and they need to pay a price, because they stole off the citizens of Owsley County," said Turner.

The judge executive in Jackson County said that their county garage was also burglarized and vandalized that same night. They don’t have a security system though, so they aren’t sure if the cases are connected.
