LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – If you have been driving on High Street downtown in the evening lately, you may have noticed some Kentucky Utilities crews hard at work digging up sections.

It’s all part of a huge project to construct and replace a two-mile section of transmission lines.

Stretches of High Street, Rose Street, Short Street, Vine and Eastern Avenue will get new circuits and duct banks that haven’t been replaced since the 1970s.

KU says that while the old lines are still safe, they’ve outlived their expected usefulness.
