LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)   There is a happier update to a story LEX 18 brought you this weekend after a local traveling girls softball team was hit by a thief.

The team was out a lot of money after a thief hit the team’s fundraising tournament Saturday afternoon.

The coach for the Bluegrass Force tells us one of his players was taking the money for the tournament at Constitution Park, off Bryan Station Road, when a man came up and asked her a question.

As she answered, he grabbed the bags with the money inside and took off, getting away with an estimated $1,000. The coach tells us the thief was a white man in his 20’s with blonde hair. He was wearing a blue hat, blue shirt and had on white or gray shorts.

The coach says this is devastating for his team and their summer plans, as this was their main fundraiser.

After watching the story on the news, a couple from Versailles showed up with a check for $250. Although it’s not the full amount that was stolen, the team was so grateful for the donation.

"Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Collins from Versailles, KY showed us this weekend that there are more kind-hearted people in this world than not. He saw the news story, found a board member’s phone number online and reached out. Yesterday, Jeff and his wife came up to Cardinal Run Park to donate $250 to the 16U Force Quinn. From the bottom of our hearts Mr. & Mrs. Collins, THANK YOU!!! Thank you for your random act of kindness and for reminding us of the good in this world!" reads a post on the group’s Facebook page.

If you would like to donate to the organization, reach out to them on their Facebook page.
