BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– One person is dead and a teen is injured following a two-vehicle collision on I-75 in Walton.

It happened around 1:26 a.m. Wednesday at the 174 mile marker.

Sheriff’s officials say a Honda Civic, operated by a Louisville resident, was traveling northbound on I-75 when it stopped in the left lane of travel. A Chevy Traverse, operated by 21-year-old Andrew Routson, of Beavercreek, Ohio, was traveling northbound on I-75 in the left lane and struck the Civic as it was occupying the left lane. The impact forced the Civic across the entire roadway to the right lane while Routson’s vehicle struck the concrete wall after impact stopping in the left emergency lane.

The driver of the Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene by Walton Fire/EMS.

Routson had two other passengers in his vehicle at the time of the collision, 21-year-old Harley Lewis, of Beavercreek, and a 13-year-old from Beavercreek. The juvenile sustained a minor back injury and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Florence for evaluation.

Officials say the Civic was stationary in the left lane and not illuminated at the time of the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor, however, speed is not a suspected factor.

No charges have been filed at this time, and Routson and his passengers are cooperating with the investigation.

Any witnesses are asked to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit at 859-334-2175.
