LEXINGTON (LEX 18)- A man who worked at a Jimmy John’s is accused of robbing it.

21-year-old Markice Armstrong, Jr. was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery.

Officers were dispatched to the Jimmy John’s on Waller Avenue on June 1 for an armed robbery.

An employee told police that while taking out the trash, he was approached by an unknown man with his face covered, armed with a handgun. The suspect pointed the gun at the employee and demanded money from the store safe.

During the investigation, detectives developed Armstrong as a suspect. He abruptly quit working at Jimmy John’s around the time of the robbery. Armstrong ultimately admitted to committing the crime and is currently lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
