MADISON COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A Madison County Grand Jury has indicted a man in a domestic violence case, adding an attempted murder charged last week.

It happened late on February night. Residents in the North Ridge Apartment Complex in Richmond said that a noise startled nearly the whole neighborhood.

"Everyone heard it, I mean, apartment complexes behind us came outside," one neighbor told LEX 18.

The noise they heard was a woman’s screams.

"I was laying in bed and I had called my boyfriend because I heard such a loud scream," said the neighbor.

That night, Richmond Police arrested 25-year-old Leonard Dyer and charged him with unlawful imprisonment and assault. Arrest records said that Dyer wouldn’t let a woman leave the bathroom of an apartment. A grand jury indicted Dyer on those charges and added an attempted murder charge. The indictment said that Dyer held the victim’s face and head underwater that night.

A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said she knew some suspicious things were happening, but never suspected it was abuse.

"Well I had heard a lot of noise through the complex throughout the year that I’ve lived here, but we had never heard anything that scary," said the neighbor.

Dyer was also indicted on an assault charge from October of last year. That indictment said he hit the same victim with a curtain rod, knocking out three of her teeth.
