LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The four men behind the Transylvania University book heist appeared on Megyn Kelly Today Monday, detailing the December 2004 crime.

Warren Lipka, Spencer Reinhard, Eric Borsuk and Chas Allen are the subjects of a major motion picture entitled American Animals.

At the time they were all just 20 years old and on a mission to steal millions of dollars worth of art from the special collections section of Transy’s library.

They initially got away with the crime, including subduing librarian Betty Jean Gooch.

But two months later, they were arrested by federal authorities in Lexington.

They spoke candidly about the whole ordeal, giving some insight into how these four seemingly happy college students turned into criminals overnight.

"I think youth had a lot to do with it," said Lipka. "Being young and not understanding the extent to which you could really hurt people."

The men served seven years in prison for their crime.
