SCOTT COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) On a rainy Monday, a driver in Georgetown took a wrong turn and ended up on a road where he spotted something strange, several carriers. Inside the carriers were five cats, all wet, hungry, and abandoned.

The driver picked up the cages and took the cats to the Scott County Animal Shelter. The photos were widely shared on Facebook.

"They look rough, they do. They look old, they look very old, they’re sick. They don’t have teeth," said Amy Smith, who is hoping to adopt one of the cats. "I was angry. Angry and sad, and appalled."

Smith said that she is angry the cats were abandoned in the storm.

The cats are in isolation now, receiving antibiotics and treatment to help nurse them back to health. Employees said both cat rooms are full and they’ve even recently taken in cats who were thrown from cars and left for dead.

"Just tossed away like trash," said Smith.

Smith is adopting one of the cats and once she passes testing, the cat will be going home.

Smith hopes to see all the felines find forever families.
