LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Corbin woman charged with abuse after infected cigarette burns allegedly were found on her 13-month-old baby girl is facing new charges.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning that  26-year-old Jessica Mae Sams was found in possession of suspected drugs and needles in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Sams was found with "three needles, Suboxone, and suspected methamphetamine during a search conducted by detention center staff where these items were found on her person," according to the sheriff’s office.

Sams was arrested along with 26-year-old Thomas Lee Tollon, and charged with criminal abuse.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies responded Friday about 10:30 p.m. for a complaint that social services was investigating at apartments south of London.

The sheriff reported that a 13-month-old girl was taken into protective custody after an investigation by doctors and other authorities revealed that the baby had infected cigarette burns on her backside.

The girl was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London and later transferred to UK Medical Center.

Sams and Tollon were being held in the Laurel County Detention Center.
