BOISE, Idaho (AP) – The Latest on a stabbing at a child’s birthday party that left nine people injured in Idaho (all times local):

A man charged with stabbing and killing one child and wounding several others and adults at a Boise apartment complex says he wants to represent himself in court.

An Ada County Judge ordered that Timmy Kinner, 30, be appointed a public defender anyway.

Kinner is charged with first-degree murder and several felonies including injury to a child and aggravated battery in connection with the attack which targeted a 3-year-old girl’s birthday party. He is being held without bond.

The 3-year-old girl died of her injuries.

A 3-year-old girl who was stabbed at her own birthday party in Idaho has died.

Police say Timmy Kinner attacked a group of children and adults at the girl’s party at an apartment complex that is home to many refugee families.

The child whose birthday it was has died of her wounds, according to the court.

A judge told Kinner on Monday that he is charged with first-degree murder as well as several felonies in connection with the Saturday night attack.

Kinner is American, and the victims are members of refugee families from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia. Boise Police Chief William Bones says evidence doesn’t suggest the attack was a hate crime.

Bones says Kinner had recently stayed at the apartment complex but was asked to leave Friday over bad behavior.

Organizers of an Idaho candlelight vigil honoring nine members of refugee families injured in a stabbing at a child’s birthday party are encouraging people to bring white flowers.

The International Rescue Committee says the flowers symbolize peace and they’ll be given to the victims of the attack after the 6 p.m. vigil.

The stabbing Saturday night at a Boise apartment complex injured six children and three adults. It’s left many in the community reeling and seeking ways to help.

More than 200 people gathered at a prayer service Sunday evening at the Imam Hussain Islamic Center, and roughly 100 people held a rally near the attack, calling for safety for refugees.

Timmy Kinner is charged with the stabbing. Police say they believe Kinner may have been trying to get revenge for being asked to leave the apartment complex over bad behavior.

Several families who had fled danger and violence overseas were enjoying a 3-year-old’s birthday party in Boise, Idaho, when a man ran up and began chasing and stabbing the children and the adults who tried to intervene.

The attack Saturday night was at an apartment complex that is home to refugee families.

Nine people were injured, including the birthday girl and five other children ranging in age from 4 to 12.

Thirty-year-old Timmy Kinner was arrested a short distance away. He has been charged with several felonies.

Boise Police Chief William Bones says Kinner, who is not a refugee, had recently been asked to leave the complex after staying there for a short time.

Bones says there’s no evidence that the attack was a hate crime.
