Officer Involved In Shooting Was Protecting Woman Being Held At Knifepoint

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – During a press conference Thursday, Louisville Metro police confirmed that a man shot by an officer has died.

According to WAVE 3 News, the shooting happened in a Southside neighborhood.

Chief Steve Conrad said multiple calls about a domestic disturbance in the apartment where the shooting happened were received today. The first officer to arrive was confronted by a man with a knife who was holding a woman on the ground and refusing to release her, Conrad said.

When the man refused to release the victim, officials say the officer fired shots to protect the woman’s life.

The man was taken to UofL Hospital were he was pronounced deceased. His identity has not been released.

Conrad also said the information was "preliminary" and that more would be available in coming days.
