LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A former Powell County deputy has been charged with federal civil rights violations for allegedly conspiring with jail inmates to assault a man in custody.

A federal grand jury in Lexington handed up a four-count indictment charging Jamie Derickson with violating the man’s civil rights and lying to the FBI about the assault.

According to the indictment, Derickson conspired with several inmates on Aug. 17, 2016, to place a man in a cell with them where he knew the man would be assaulted.

Derickson also allegedly lied to FBI agents about his involvement.

According to officials, Derickson faces up to 10 years in prison on each civil rights offense and up to 5 years for lying to FBI agents.
