MIDDLETOWN, Oh. (WLWT) – A Middletown mother found a man half-naked in her bed holding a hatchet.

WLWT reports Kaylie Radford said she met Michael McClain, 39, about two weeks ago when he rode his bike up to her home and asked for a glass of water.

The woman said her husband eventually got him to leave that day, but she never imagined McClain would come back with a deadly weapon in his hand.

"His head was laying right there and then like half of his body was there and then his legs were like off the side of the bed so it was almost like he sat down and passed out,” Radford said.

She said she got home late Thursday night and found him in her bed, exposed.

"When I opened the curtain, it looked like his pants were unbuttoned and it was just out," Radford said.

Radford, who is almost 6 months pregnant, said she immediately called her husband, who came home minutes later with his gun to wake up McClain.

According to Middletown police, the two men fought and McClain was struck in the head with the gun.

Radford said her husband eventually got McClain outside and fired on shot at the ground. Police said he then ran off, and came back at Radford’s husband with the hatchet in his hand.

Then, a second gun shot was fired at the ground. No one else was injured, but Radford said it was something she and her family won’t soon forget.

Radford said McClain got in through an unlocked door, a harsh reminder to keep doors locked, especially at night.

McClain was treated at a local hospital then transported to Middletown Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
