LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Excitement is building for next week’s Barbasol Championship.

Preparations on the golf course are finishing up just before players and spectators arrive.

But organizers still need help. If you’d like to be part of the event, adult and junior volunteers are being sought.

Just six more days until Kentucky shines on the national stage.

"We’ve had people show up here this weekend and have driven in from Louisville and out of town, just to scope it out," said executive director Brooks Downing.

One PGA caddie came forward and wanted to pay the fee for five juniors to work the event.

That trend continued, and now they’re up to nearly 100 junior spots paid for — but they’re going fast.

It’s a rare opportunity to get inside the ropes and near the players.

:"You don’t get to do that in a lot of professional sports," Downing noted. "You don’t get to do these kinds of things at an NBA game or at a college sporting event."

More event announcements are expected later this week.

"I think Lexington has always been a community that’s embraced high-end events," Downing said. "They love a good party, they love a place to get food and drink. We’ve got all of that here on a hot summer night."
