LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Build-A-Bear "pay your age" promotion was so wildly successful, that the store had to shut down the promotion nationwide due to safety issues.
In Fayette Mall, lines stretched from one end of the mall to another. Parents waited with their small children to get the popular stuffed animals for the cost of the age of their child. The bears can normally run upwards of $30.
As the lines grew nationwide, police began to patrol crowds. Finally, after the lines became problematic, Build-a-Bear announced on Facebook that they would shut down the lines.
Some of those waiting in line were given vouchers. Fayette Mall now says they are out of bears.
