JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Jessamine County Cemetery said that they had to euthanize nearly 200 geese on their property. Now, a Lexington landscaping company said that they have a new solution to get rid of geese in an organic and non-harmful way.

"They can be kind of mean. They can also destroy your turf, they eat up to three pounds of grass, a day. And leave behind about two pounds of droppings every single day," said Dusty Dunaway with Green Solutions.

The company Green Solutions told LEX 18 that they have a new solution to getting rid of geese. It is a UV spray that only the birds will know is there.

"So when the geese feed on the grass, it causes a digestive issue, similar to like a heartburn. And then they see the red grass, associate that with bad food and move to other areas," said Dunaway.

Green Solutions said one they heard that the Jessamine County cemetery had euthanized about 200 geese, they wanted to tell people who are having similar issues that there is another solution.

"They tend to not leave the entire area, they tend to have two or three spots close by that they like to feed. So what you try to do, is create a ‘inhabitable’ or ‘unfriendly’ feeding area, and so they’ll just go from that pond to the next," said Dunaway.

The company said that anyone can have their property sprayed with the Stop the Drop solutions.

"It’s non-harmful to any other kind of vegetation, any other wildlife. It even doesn’t bother ducks, if you have a pond and you like how all the ducks that are there but you want to get rid of the geese," he said.

Green Solutions said that they are offering free treatment to the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens Cemetery as a way of showing their support for the community and local wildlife preservation.
