LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lottery fever is spreading across America once again as the Mega Millions jackpot soars upwards of $422 million.

For loyal players, Wednesdays are all about the Powerball drawing, but it is Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot that’s already got people buzzing.

After there was no winner Tuesday night, the jackpot skyrocketed to the sixth highest in Mega Millions history, and it is certain only to rise.

The Dairy Mart on Reynolds Road in Lexington is number two in the state in terms of lottery ticket sales. They say that even in the age in which we’ve seen the first ever billion dollar jackpot, customers are excited as ever about the growing prize.

"Probably the last two or three weeks sales have increased each week," said Eddie White, the Dairy Mart owner.

The overall odds of winning the jackpot are one to more than 302 million, but as ever, lottery players and dreaming about what they’d do with all that money.

"Pay off a lot of bills, give some money to my kids, probably buy some stuff I don’t need," said Boyd Lynch.

The highest jackpot for mega millions was $656 million on March 30, 2012.

The next drawing is Friday.
