LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Catholic Action Center will now require those who stay at the shelter to be vaccinated for hepatitis A following the statewide outbreak.

Starting August 6, guests will have to prove they have been vaccinated. The center has developed a plan for all guests to have access to the vaccine at no cost.

The Fayette County Health Department will immunize the guests at the Catholic Action Center, on Sunday, July 29 during and after the Community Meeting. They will continue to immunize from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. that day, then we will set another day or two during the week that any who missed the immunization will be able to receive it at the Center.

Following that week, their nurse practitioner and HealthFirst will continue to make the hepatitis A available for guests who were not available for the Health Department. As of August 6, only those who have proof of immunization will be allowed to be placed on the weekly bed list and walk-ins will have 24 hours to be immunized or seek shelter elsewhere.
