An unusually potent summer setup will result in a potentially significant severe storm threat, mainly late in the day Friday. After a few morning showers & storms we should see a late morning/midday break allowing for destabilization and a stronger round (or rounds) of storms to develop late in the afternoon and track east through the evening.

We’re ramping up the LEX 18 Severe Threat Index to 2, a moderate risk. Damaging wind & large hail will be the primary threat for the Bluegrass & eastern counties. We’ll also watch for isolated tornadoes, most likely for western counties across I-65 and farther into western Kentucky. Friday’s SPC severe storm risk has been upgraded across the board with a slight to enhanced to moderate risk from east to west across the viewing area.
