LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A mother was arrested Friday on a warrant after hospital officials allegedly found drugs in her 1-year-old’s system.

According to an arrest citation, 24-year-old Stephanie Ann James took her son to the hospital around 11:17 p.m. June 7 because "he was limp, lethargic, and had trouble holding his head up."

Officials say during the medical evaluation, the child tested positive for morphine, methamphetamines, and THC.

The citation goes on to say, "his methamphetamine level was almost six times the amount needed to test positive for the drug. His THC level was higher than their machine was able to accurately record."

James took a drug test a couple days later and tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, and Fentanyl.

Police say they discovered marijuana and digital scales in a vehicle belonging to James, and hypodermic needles in her bedroom and in her child’s diaper bag while searching the residence.

James and her live-in ex-boyfriend were arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana.

The sheriff’s department later arrested James in a Fayette County court room and charged her with first-degree wanton endangerment.
